Vacation?
I have the house to myself tonight - well it's just me and 4 smelly boys. #1son has baseball practice at 6. The prof had football until 5 and Tator and Doc and I just got home from dinner out. SUSHI all around. I love that the little guys love food as much as I do. Good thing they are so active or they'd be really huge.
Doc left the stamp he got from the treasure box at school at the resturant and Tator told him that if he stopped crying that he'd buy him a new one. I can't tell if he's being really nice, or just trying to get Doc to quiet down.
It's time to check homework and get settled in for the night. I hope I can sleep (I have a feeling I won't be alone tonight).
Update: It's not exactly like I got kicked out of my OWN bed. It's more like I'd rather sleep on the couch than sleep with four handsful of pistachio shells AND 2 smelly (like shampoo and ZEST) boys.

Mom
Big sister just called. Mom was taken to the hospital, via ambulance, from the doctor’s office. I’m the closest – 2 hours away. No one knows what’s up yet. Please pray for her.
I’m not exactly sure what to do. I asked friends at work and they all said to go. I called DaddyO and he’s reluctant. Ohhhh, I need my mom’s advice but she’s NOT AVAILABLE!

He made it...
#1son spent the greater part of Sunday and Monday evening at
Oh and um… DaddyO is very sick, due in no small part to the baseball tryouts Sunday and Monday. He actually missed work yesterday and today. In the entire time I have known him I don’t think he has taken more than 5 sick days (except for surgeries) and NEVER 2 in a row. I got him an antibiotic yesterday and some NyQuil. I’m glad he decided to stay home today too and get to feeling better.
The Prof will start football “practice” in the next few weeks too. I don’t think they will actually dress for practice but really just go over plays and get more information. He’s pretty excited though. I really hope he’s up for this.
The little guys are doing fine and continue to make me laugh. Last night Tator and I went to the store and when we were unpacking the car he said, “Momma, the sky looks exactly like my dream when the aliens came.” I thought he was pretty spooked so I changed the subject.
And… Doc is Doc is Doc.

Happy Valentine's Day
The older boys went to Louisville last night and we wouldn't see them at all today so I tucked their Valentine's Day cards in their agenda books for school. The Prof found his before school I guess because he tore into it before he left but #1son told me he liked the card and showed it to all his friends. That's actually a relief because I was second guessing myself all day about putting it in his agenda. You know with the 14 year old mood swings and attitudes. I really didn't want to make him mad. It all worked out though so I'm happy.
Yesterday was my father-in-laws birthday (we got him a snow shovel - #1son's idea because he really needed one and wouldn't purchase one himself). MIL had a little party for him before the older boys left. It was nice and we all had a good time.
Tator's BEST buddy invited him to spend the night and his mom called me about 5:00 to ask if he could. I told her no because of Papaw's birthday party but DaddyO told Tator yes when he picked him up from school. Crying - no, sobbing- ensued so we relented and he called Best Bud and made arrangements for me to drive him over. He asked Granny if she would save him a rib, some mutton and some of her homemade beans so that's in the fridge for when he comes home (it's calling my name though so he better get home soon!)
Granny invited Doc to spend the night and go to the beauty shop and out for lunch today so he jumped at the chance. DaddyO and I would have the house to ourselves. WoooHooo!! I spent the evening on Facebook and he watched TV.
I did get my choice of a generator, a dryer, a computer or my braces for Valentine's Day (all recent major purchases). I was a little bummed but he did get me a nice card and a bag of chocolates - Better than nothing!

They say the darndest things
When I told him the reason a coworker was sad was because some people said some things that were not very nice he asked me if they said "ashes" with their tongue sticking out.
At bedtime when we were praying for a friend (with a brain tumor that I did not explain - just told him she was not feeling well) he asked me if she had a spladder infection.

If you don't like the weather wait 10 minutes
I think we're in for some flooding later on this week - not that we need more mud (the melted ice saturated the ground so much that The Prof tracked in 19 pounds of mud even after taking off his shoes).
I guess we'll keep the generator for the next time we experience a weather wonder. I don't think we could sell it now even if we wanted to. There are several ads in the paper for generators "used only one time." I'm really thankful that the boys are back in school and life is back to almost normal.

Doc
Some Questions I hope to have answered
Why do third graders have so much spelling homework?
How many times do you need to launder dark wash jeans before they stop turning your legs blue?
How do you motivate an unmotivated 12 year old?
Is the possessive of "Cates" "Cates'" or "Cates's" (it's only been my last name for forever)?
Is that the correct use of quotation marks? - I'm thinking NO.
How can we successfully avoid the concession stand during baseball season? - Doc has been asking already - he's NOT playing this year.
Does any one want to buy a generator?
Why, oh why do the schools feel compelled to torture parents by packing them in the gym like sardines and making them endure entire grade level performances when the temperature outside is 72 degrees in FEBRUARY and the staff can't figure out how to turn the heat off after serving a chili supper?
How do you convince a 14 year old that setting off a "works bomb" in the back yard with his 3 little brothers in attendance is "a big deal" even if nobody got hurt?
Will anyone else read this blog besides you?
There's a first...
Welcome.
