Why I'm hungry

Tator is a very creative soul. He loves to draw, paint, create. He is also very messy but that's a whole other post. I made baked pancakes a couple of weeks ago and he's been wanting to make some pancakes of his own for a couple of days. He asked me last night if he could make them for dinner. I asked if he had a recipe and he said he knew how to make the m already. Flour, water and eggs. Ummm.... We got online and found a recipe that I saw a while ago and wanted to try. He got busy on the Disney site and kinda forgot all about the pancakes- whew.
This morning I was cheerfully awakened by Tator and Daddyo with a HUGE plateful of pancakes with syrup and powdered sugar. I dug right in and Tator said to meet him downstairs when I was finished because he was going to eat his (and I think he wanted to watch his cartoon) Yummy? Well.... The only thing that would have made them better was a RECIPE. Turns out that he told Daddyo that he remembered exactly how to make them, NOT. I barely was able to swallow the first bite and Daddyo refused to even taste. I asked Daddyo how to hide them and he offered to throw them away for me, but I told them I wanted to be rid of the evidenc and thought I would flush them and take the sticky, empty plate back downstairs. Unfortunately they were not exactly flushable. Turns out I'm messy too.

Wha...Huh?

Where did the time go? I can't believe it's been two weeks since I last posted. Where do I begin? It's all a big, boring, blur.
1. The Professor went for allergy shots with FIL and ended up at the hospital for a stupid, stupid flu test - they didn't have any at the convenient care so they sent him to the hospital. I'm glad it was negative - but I'm irritated about having to pay for it (insurance will cover it, but still...).
2. MIL had a lovely birthday.
3. I finally convinced my doctor to prescribe Ambien - WhooooHoooo (those that know me well know what a big deal this really is)
4. Mom is home from the hospital and is doing well.
5. Baseball, baseball, baseball.
6. I have no idea how we're going to cover $400 worth of fundraising coupons for #1son's high school team, $100 in raffle tickets for #1son's Babe Ruth team, $50 each for The Professor and Tator's Little League Teams, $100 worth of chocolate for Tator and Doc's school fundraiser, plus the Coke and Krispy Kreme fundraiser for the middle school. Plus the cost of new cleats and uniforms for whole bunch and new summer clothes because they're all growing like WEEDS. Staggering!!
7. Daddyo called me at work last week saying that he had just heard from the school. Uuut Ohhh. Turns out that #1son took the qualifying test for the National Geography Bee (he won the school wide bee before Christmas). He did very well and has advanced to the state level - first student EVER from his school to qualify. He competes for the state title on April 3rd with hopes of going to the National competition in Washington DC in May. Needless to say we're very proud.
8. Please refer to #5.
I guess that's why I haven't posted as much as I intended to.

Vacation?

I just heard Tator asking Daddyo on the phone if he was having a good time on his vacation so far. Daddyo is in Frankfort today and tomorrow talking to legislators about Hospice funding. He left around noon today and will be back late tomorrow. Whenever I go out of town for business he tags along and we tack on a couple days and make a mini-vacation out of it. I guess Tator was thinking along those lines.
I have the house to myself tonight - well it's just me and 4 smelly boys. #1son has baseball practice at 6. The prof had football until 5 and Tator and Doc and I just got home from dinner out. SUSHI all around. I love that the little guys love food as much as I do. Good thing they are so active or they'd be really huge.
Doc left the stamp he got from the treasure box at school at the resturant and Tator told him that if he stopped crying that he'd buy him a new one. I can't tell if he's being really nice, or just trying to get Doc to quiet down.
It's time to check homework and get settled in for the night. I hope I can sleep (I have a feeling I won't be alone tonight).
Update: It's not exactly like I got kicked out of my OWN bed. It's more like I'd rather sleep on the couch than sleep with four handsful of pistachio shells AND 2 smelly (like shampoo and ZEST) boys.

Conversation

Scene: Doc giving me kisses without the smack.

Me: Hey, it's not a kiss if you don't make the sound.

Doc: Hehehehehe.

Me: Hey, you need to make the sound if you are giving me kisses.

Doc: (more kisses without the sound) Hehehehehe.

Me: Oh, come on Doc.

Finally a smack

Me: Ahhh, paradise

Doc: ?????

Me: Do you know what paradise is?

Doc: Yes, it is a good feeling.

Me: Yes, kinda. It's a place that you love that makes you really happy, a beach, church.

Doc: Right, like Chucky Cheese.
Me: ?????

Mom

Big sister just called. Mom was taken to the hospital, via ambulance, from the doctor’s office. I’m the closest – 2 hours away. No one knows what’s up yet. Please pray for her.

I’m not exactly sure what to do. I asked friends at work and they all said to go. I called DaddyO and he’s reluctant. Ohhhh, I need my mom’s advice but she’s NOT AVAILABLE!

UPDATE:

Mom's okay. Though they're going to keep her until Monday to make sure her meds are straightened out. Little sister is there from Lowell, IN. Good thing too, they woke up this morning at her house without hot water. Her husband checked and the hot water heater took a dive. They went to visit Mom this morning and then left to get a new water heater and install it for her. Little sister and BIL are both gems and Mom is very fortunate to have them.

He made it...

#1son spent the greater part of Sunday and Monday evening at Apollo High School trying out for the high school baseball team. I kept calling DaddyO asking when they’d be home – ‘cause I’m used to Little League and Babe Ruth baseball where it’s all volunteer (although EXTREMELY competitive) and not exactly super organized. Well this is high school baseball in Kentucky and let me tell you, they worked in the 30° cold for a total of 7 hours. Daddyo was so proud of #son’s performance and it looks like he will take after his father. Very good baseball player. Practice started Monday night from 6 to 8. I’m NOT ready for this. I thought I had at least a couple more weeks. The two middle boys will have tryouts next week and then practice will start the week after.

Oh and um… DaddyO is very sick, due in no small part to the baseball tryouts Sunday and Monday. He actually missed work yesterday and today. In the entire time I have known him I don’t think he has taken more than 5 sick days (except for surgeries) and NEVER 2 in a row. I got him an antibiotic yesterday and some NyQuil. I’m glad he decided to stay home today too and get to feeling better.

The Prof will start football “practice” in the next few weeks too. I don’t think they will actually dress for practice but really just go over plays and get more information. He’s pretty excited though. I really hope he’s up for this.

The little guys are doing fine and continue to make me laugh. Last night Tator and I went to the store and when we were unpacking the car he said, “Momma, the sky looks exactly like my dream when the aliens came.” I thought he was pretty spooked so I changed the subject.

And… Doc is Doc is Doc.

Happy Valentine's Day

The older boys went to Louisville last night and we wouldn't see them at all today so I tucked their Valentine's Day cards in their agenda books for school. The Prof found his before school I guess because he tore into it before he left but #1son told me he liked the card and showed it to all his friends. That's actually a relief because I was second guessing myself all day about putting it in his agenda. You know with the 14 year old mood swings and attitudes. I really didn't want to make him mad. It all worked out though so I'm happy.

Yesterday was my father-in-laws birthday (we got him a snow shovel - #1son's idea because he really needed one and wouldn't purchase one himself). MIL had a little party for him before the older boys left. It was nice and we all had a good time.

Tator's BEST buddy invited him to spend the night and his mom called me about 5:00 to ask if he could. I told her no because of Papaw's birthday party but DaddyO told Tator yes when he picked him up from school. Crying - no, sobbing- ensued so we relented and he called Best Bud and made arrangements for me to drive him over. He asked Granny if she would save him a rib, some mutton and some of her homemade beans so that's in the fridge for when he comes home (it's calling my name though so he better get home soon!)

Granny invited Doc to spend the night and go to the beauty shop and out for lunch today so he jumped at the chance. DaddyO and I would have the house to ourselves. WoooHooo!! I spent the evening on Facebook and he watched TV.

I did get my choice of a generator, a dryer, a computer or my braces for Valentine's Day (all recent major purchases). I was a little bummed but he did get me a nice card and a bag of chocolates - Better than nothing!
